This JavaScript-powered edition of Pac-Man brings the classic maze-chase action directly to your browser with zero loading time, zero emulators, and zero fuss. Unlike the DOSBox emulated version (also available on DreamWorldClaw), this JS port runs natively on modern web technology 鈥?meaning instant start, smooth 60fps gameplay, and compatibility with any device, including tablets and phones.
While purists may prefer the original arcade ROM, this version captures the essence of Pac-Man’s gameplay perfectly: navigate the maze, eat all the dots, gobble power pellets to turn the tables on the ghosts, and chase that high score.
How to Play
Use the Arrow Keys or WASD to navigate Pac-Man through the maze. Eat all of the small white dots (pellets) to clear each level. The four colored ghosts 鈥?Blinky (red), Pinky (pink), Inky (cyan), and Clyde (orange) 鈥?will chase you through the maze. Touch a ghost without a power pellet active and you lose a life.
Power Pellets
The four large flashing dots in the corners of the maze are Power Pellets. Eating one turns all ghosts blue and vulnerable for a limited time. During this window, you can eat ghosts for bonus points 鈥?200 for the first, 400 for the second, 800 for the third, and 1600 for the fourth ghost eaten in a single power pellet activation.
Fruit Bonuses
Fruits appear periodically below the ghost pen for bonus points. Grab them quickly 鈥?they disappear after a set time.
Ghost Behavior
Each ghost follows a distinct AI pattern, just like the original:
- Blinky (Red) 鈥?The Chaser: Always targets Pac-Man’s exact position. He’s predictable but persistent. When you’ve eaten most of the dots, Blinky enters “Cruise Elroy” mode and moves faster.
- Pinky (Pink) 鈥?The Ambusher: Targets the tile a few spaces ahead of Pac-Man. She tries to cut you off, not chase you. Take sharp turns to shake her.
- Inky (Cyan) 鈥?The Wildcard: His targeting depends on both Blinky’s position and yours. The most unpredictable ghost 鈥?always keep an eye on him.
- Clyde (Orange) 鈥?The Coward: Chases until he gets within a certain distance, then retreats to his corner. He’s the least aggressive but can surprise you.
Tips for High Scores
- Corners Are Safe: Pac-Man turns faster than ghosts. Use corners to shake pursuers.
- Eat Ghosts Aggressively: On early levels, the blue ghost timer is long enough to eat all four ghosts. This is the fastest way to rack up points.
- Clear One Side First: Don’t bounce between left and right sides of the maze. Clear one area completely before moving on 鈥?it reduces the space ghosts can trap you in.
- Tunnels Slow You Down: The left and right tunnels slow Pac-Man but not ghosts. Only use them as a last resort escape.
- Pattern Play: With enough practice, you can learn repeating movement patterns that consistently clear each level while avoiding ghosts.
